Conference “Intercultural Encounters on the Shores of the Mediterranean, the Alchemy of an Uninterrupted Dialogue”

Within the framework of the UNESCO "Arabia Plan" intended to promote better understanding of the Arab world and the dialogue it has engaged in with other cultures, UNESCO will hold on the 4 and 5 December 2008 a Conference entitled "Intercultural Encounters on the Shores of the Mediterranean, the Alchemy of an Uninterrupted Dialogue".

The conference aims at presenting an intercultural vision of history that unites the Arab-Muslim world with the West by drawing up the general framework of a dialogue which has nurtured, transformed and handed down a millenary legacy from which the entire world has benefited. More specifically, this encounter will endeavour to shed light on the exchanges and mutual influences, particularly in the fields of science, philosophy, literature and the arts in the Mediterranean region, by focusing on a few selected highlights, themes and emblematic places and figures well as on the perspectives offered by this dialogue in today’s world.
