DREAM Centre for the social reintegration of street children
In co-operation with the NGO Mith Samlanh, was inaugurated in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 1 July 2005. The overall objectives of the project are to help the schoolchildren to reintegrate their families, the public school system, the workplace and their culture as well as building the capacity of the staff in order to allow Cambodian nationals to provide the best quality of service to children and youth. The Dream Centre will provide responses to such needs in developing the activities of dance, library, self-expression, art and music. Artistic activities address the basic needs and rights of children for building creativity and self-esteem, working on personal issues and traumas and allowing them to develop a personal space for "dreaming".
The recreational centre will be run by a specialized team in collaboration with former street children and will feature cultural as well as sporting activities. A library will be operational for children and youth to access books and magazines in Khmer.
