The Central Asian Round Table on the Exchange and Sharing of Good Practices in Intercultural Dialogue : Learning and Promotion of UNESCO’s Declaration on Cultural Diversity and a Workshop with UNESCO Chairs on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue.
The meeting brought together representatives from four countries of Central Asia, Chairholders from the Network of UNESCO Chairs on "Interreligious Dialogue for Intercultural Understanding", international experts and resource-persons.
The main idea of the Round Table was to highlight and examine good practices conducive to "living together," to fostering a better understanding of the Other, to being respectful of one’s own culture, beliefs, and identities, while at the same time identifying and sharing commonalities that potentially create a better environment for cultural pluralism and peace. In this connection, different activities and cultural manifestations implemented by the countries contributed to the wide dissemination and knowledge of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity , which all participants considered the best asset for the promotion of intercultural dialogue. The participants of the meetings adopted the Recommendations and the Proceedings have been prepared as a follow–up to the meetings.
The Round Table was organized in cooperation with UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office, the Municipality of Almaty, the Assembly of the People of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakh Institute of Oriental Studies, the Oslo Coalition on Freedom of Religion or Belief, the National Commissions of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan for UNESCO, the Central Asian Crafts Support Association (CACSA).
