Capacity-building in musicians’ rights and contractual arrangements in Central and West Africa
  • African International Musicians Conference - Towards a Pan African Action Plan

The sub-regional seminar aims to train musicians’ organizations and develop their expertise in managing rights and contracts. It also seeks to encourage better professional practices, help improve the status of musicians and structure the music sector, all of which are necessary steps towards sustaining the diversity of cultural expressions.

The seminar focuses on:

  • copyright and related rights;
  • collective management;
  • contracts, contractual arrangements and practice;
  • the professional status of musicians;
  • the fight against piracy.

The 20 participants are from the following countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Guinea, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

This event is organized by the Benin Musicians’ Organization (OMB), the International Federation of Musicians (IFM) with UNESCO’s support in the framework of the participation programme and the International Labour Organization (ILO). It is followed by a bi-national workshop for Benin and Togo (10–12 November 2007), in the framework of the IFM regional training programme on rights, contracts and strengthening musicians’ organizations. This second workshop is organized by OMB, IFM and supported by the Swedish Trade Union Confederation LO-TCO.
