Nomination of Qhapaq Ņan (Main Andean Road) on the World Heritage List

This 9th International expert meeting examines progress reports on the nomination of the Main Andean Road for its inclusion in the World Heritage List. Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru share this common cultural heritage of outstanding value.

The objectives:

  • Submit the progress reports of the registration/research process of the Main Andean Road in each country;
  • Discuss the recommendations formulated in the technical meeting held in Cuenca (Ecuador) in September 2007;
  • Adopt the juridical matrix as a legal base for a serial/transnational nomination;
  • Sign an official agreement to start the implementation of the international management plan of the Qhapaq Ņan.

Participants include national committees of the process of nomination from the Andean Republics of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The Directors of Cultural & Natural National Heritages of the States Parties, the Mayor of Puebla (World Heritage Site in Ecuador) and the ex-rapporteur of the World Heritage Convention, Mr. Ariel Gonzalez (Argentina) have also been invited to attend.
