Gender, Culture, HIV/AIDS in the 21st Century

Professor Vinh-Kim Nguyen, associate professor in the department of social and preventive medicine of the University of Montreal, HIV physician and medical anthropologist, gives a public lecture on gender, culture, HIV and AIDS.  

Professor Nguyen is also co-editor for the upcoming UNESCO publication "The Fourth Wave: An assault on Women - Gender, Culture and HIV in the 21st Century". Scheduled for release in the spring 2008, the publication will feature over a dozen accomplished authors, senior policy-makers and new scholars offering original insights and empirical analyses of socio-cultural factors shaping the gendered course of the pandemic and responses to it.

Prior to the lecture, and in preparation for this publication, an expert group meeting is held (4-5 October) at UNESCO Headquarters to develop a common vision for the publication, to clarify key issues to be explored and to ensure coherence and editorial consistency.

This event is organized by the Section for Women and Gender Equality and the Culture and Social and Human Sciences Sectors.
