Indonesia National Consultative Meeting on Underwater Cultural Archaeology

This activity is undertaken at the request of the Indonesian authorities with a view to upgrading Indonesian legislation concerning underwater cultural heritage and to initiating the ratification process of the UNESCO Convention.

The objective of this meeting is to promote the UNESCO 2001 Convention on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage among various line agencies in Indonesia. It will include four sessions on the following themes:

• Underwater Cultural Heritage: Existing Situation - Realities of Indonesia;
• the 2001 Convention;
• Indonesian Legislation related to the 2001 Convention;
• Future challenges for the preservation of the underwater cultural heritage in Indonesia

During the meeting, participants will share experiences from 14 line agencies concerned with this issue in Indonesia. International experts will also present the UNESCO 2001 Convention and give examples of its implementation UNESCO Member States worldwide.
