1973Working with the community of the Zabbaleen in Cairo. 70,000 Coptic Christians live in the neighborhood of Moqqatam, where, after collecting one third of the city’s waste, they sort through and recycle about 30% of it in family-run cottage industries. Despite international recognition for their ingenious rubbish-sorting techniques, their livelihood is under threat by both international garbage contractors and government plans to move the Zabbaleen out of the city. Privileged Tactics 2 follows on from Privileged Tactics 1, our project about homeless children living on the streets of Ukraine.
