The Image of Arabo-Islamic Culture in European History Textbooks 

This experts meeting is held within the framework of the Euro-Arab Dialogue programme “Learning To Live Together”. 

The objectives are aimed at bringing together historians, textbook authors, specialists in textbook revision, representatives from Ministries of Education and history textbook publishers, for the purpose of discussing:

  • the image of Arabo-Islamic culture as presented in existing history textbooks
  • means to overcome possible errors and potential negative stereotypes in the future.

The meeting is jointly organized by the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in the Arab States (Mediterranean Programme) in Cairo, the Ministry of Higher Education, the League of Arab States, the Council of Europe, the Islamic Education Science and Culture Organization (ISESCO), the Georg-Eckert Institute (Germany), the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO and the Swedish Institute in Alexandria.
