With the financial support of Adobe, the workshop was moderated by two artist-trainers, Maris Jahn and Rachel Mc Intire, within the framework of the 13th International Symposium of Electronic Arts (ISEA 2006)_Zero One San Jose Festival. The workshop was a second phase to a three month (May-July 2006) online session of the UNESCO Young Digital Creators (YDC) ‘Scenes and Sounds of my City” programme. Creative intervention of the young participants took place by making digital icons, an artistic transformation and representation of one’ reflections on “who I am” and “how can I describe myself”. Jiao from Australia wanted to visually communicate on the complexity of her identity, showing the Australian kangaroo and the stars of the Chinese flag fused into one whole image. Where as Sidi, the big dreamer from Burkina Faso, expressed how he felt about this special experience in San Jose with utopian view of different colours coming together in harmony , as he quoted ‘fusion des cultures (blending of cultures). The exchange and sharing among these young creators was not just t happening in the training rooms. It is intriguing to see how Rocio from Argentina would go back to his hometown Cordoba and start teaching his local friend how to count in Arabic, which he must have learnt from the smart Egyptian girl Yomna. Having experienced such exposure to other cultures, the participants will surely feel the changes of views in looking at their own environment. Their experiences in San Jose have yet become another string source of inspiration for the next creative project to come so the show must go on.
