Undergoing Session 2006 YDC “scenes and sounds of my city”
After a one-month “call for participation”, 61 groups of schools, youth clubs, and community centres across the globe have engaged themselves in the special session 2006 of the UNESCO Young Digital Creators “scenes and sounds of my city” programme.

Throughout the online session till early July, young students with their teachers and mentors are to build a collaborative project making creative digital expressions on urban realities and dynamics. They are working in groups, going on field trips trying to discover unique places in their cities, taking pictures and recording sounds they would like to share with young peers and, furthermore making expressive digital productions to exchange visions on sustainable urban environment.

The reflection is on urban zones and experiences, the form of creative expression is digital.

Adrian Calvo-Valderrama, the head moderator, leads the session. He is using different online tools of communication such as emails, chats, and blogs in order to provide the teachers with various resources, technical, educational, and creative, and to pump up the dialogue among peer teachers. The teachers are as enthusiastic as the students on learning about digital tools and creative online activities.

At the end of the session, a selected number of participants will be given further opportunities to create, share, and exchange. 10 students will especially be selected to take part in a face-to-face workshop with professional media artists at ISEA (International Symposium of Electronic Arts) 2006 – ZeroOne San Jose, a Global Festival of Art on the Edge (7-13 August 2006, San Jose, USA). The one-week workshop will enable these young delegates to transform their digital productions into urban installations within public spaces and to physically interact with their young peers from different regions and cultures.
