Buenos Aires Hosts an International Design Festival, 12-29 October 2006

During the Buenos Aires International Design Festival, representatives from the world of design, professionals working in the knowledge economy and local community members will come together to recognize design's rapidly growing role in boosting local creative enterprises.

In its role as UNESCO City of Design, Buenos Aires will host a Creative Cities workshop on 'Applying a Global Network on the Ground' on 17 October. As the first workshop by design entrepreneurs for design entrepreneurs, the event will provide small and medium enterprise (SME) stakeholders with the opportunity to share their experiences and know-how in applying the resources of the cities' global networks to the development of their local design enterprises. See below for the workshop programme (in English and Spanish).

Also part of the Festival agenda is the 'Buenos Aires, City of Design: Towards the Bicentenary (2010)' Forum to be held on 18 October. The title of the event refers back to a key date in Argentinian history in 1810 but also looks ahead to the city's strategic plans until 2010.

Throughout the Festival, a series of talks, installations, exhibitions and product launches will be run by different institutions, companies and professionals working in the field of design.

Entrance is free, although registration is required for certain activities.

The Festival is organized by the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Centre of Design (Centro Metropolitano de Diseño, CMD).
