Bogotá, World Book Capital
The central theme of the 20th international book fair is "The Role of Books in Education". This year's fair will pay tribute to six world book capitals: Madrid (Spain), Alexandria (Egypt), New Delhi (India), Antwerp (Belgium), Montréal (Canada) and Turin (Italy). Bogotá, will be designated book capital in 2007. |

| The Bogotá International Book Fair is reputedly the largest publishing event of its kind in Latin America and, since its creation, it has helped to develop Colombia’s publishing industry by facilitating exchanges between publishers, graphic designers, booksellers, literary agents, distributors, researchers and key figures in the literary world. From 3 to 4 May, a forum devoted to "The Role of Books in Education" will examine the relationship between education policies and editorial content. Among the other scheduled events: - An international meeting on "The Book and the City" (22-25 April);
- The celebration of the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece, The Divine Comedy;
- Academic activities will also include: "Libraries, Readers and Readings", within the framework of the 7th National Reading Conference (24-27 April), and the "Free Trade Treaty and Copyright" Conference;
- Concerts by the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia
