Events VII World Congress of IDEA 2010
Live, Living Diversity! Embracing the Arts of Transformation!

This congress affirms two interlinked priorities for the 21st Century: the necessity to celebrate and practice cultural diversity as a guarantee of living participatory democracy; and the necessity to embrace pedagogies based in the arts and our languages, knowledge and skills of transformation to democratize our world and communities and our world to enable us to have a sustainable human future.

In this first Latin American IDEA World Congress, the Brazilian Network of Arteducators (ABRA) embraces an important opportunity to strengthen the role of artistic languages (particularly theatre) and of popular cultures in the construction of a new paradigm of education for our Century. ABRA anticipates the World Congress with ‘Towards IDEA 2010’, a series of collaborative projects between the communities of Belém and the world to guarantee environmental sensitivity, social transformation and community development.

In the framework of the Congress, the First International Festival of Theatre and arts of transformation will value cultural diversity, social transformation through the arts and the environmental significance of the Amazon for the world. In this edition, the Festival will continue the principles of solidarity, cooperation and social responsibility which define its distinctive identity.
