Young Caribbean representatives of youth organisations from eight Caribbean countries gathered in Trinidad and Tobago, Port-of-Spain (April 27-29, 2005), to think, discuss and act on building a cultural appropriate and sensitive web programme “Youth Creating and Communicating on HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean”, which is to up, running, and interactive, by mid-2005

The workshop was organized by UNESCO Office Kingston, International Education and Resource Network (iEARN) Trinidad and Tobago, and the UNESCO DigiArts Team in order to customize and re-design the existing web programme of “Youth creating and communicating on HIV./AIDS” to the needs and aspirations of the Caribbean youth, especially tackling socio-cultural realities and issues related to this topic.

This initiative, led by UNESCO in association with iEARN and the Caribbean Youth and HIV/AIDS Network, will provides opportunities for young people to find ways to communicate with their peers in the fight against the spread of the HIV virus and the stigma and discrimination related to it, through information sharing, creative culturally-sensitive materials, and interactive chat rooms. The website will respond to the cultural, social and gender idiosyncrasies of the Caribbean.

A partnership agreement has been established between UNESCO and the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GTZ), within the framework of the GTZ Supra Regional Project, Youth and AIDS in the Caribbean and Latin America (ProSuRe) to provide continuing support for the portal when it is established.
