Transmissions and Transformations: Learning Through the Arts in Asia

The UNESCO Office in Bangkok will be jointly organizing a regional symposium entitled “Transmissions and Transformations: Learning Through the Arts in Asia” with the India International Centre (IIC).

This symposium, drawing on the IIC-Asia Project’s regional experience, will take forward the agenda of the UNESCO Regional Meeting on Arts Education in Asia (Hong Kong, January 2004) and will focus on the promotion of the instrumental role of the Arts in education. In particular, it will foster discussions on exploring ways in which the Arts can be better integrated into formal and informal educational systems in Asia. Consideration will also be given to the contemporary and globalized context in which Internet, television and cinema are part of the art and aesthetics mix in today’s societies.
