Festival on traditional rural music of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is known for its individual music style in the region like Gomvhira in Chapainawabganj, Bhawaiya from Greater Rangpur, Pala gan from Lalmonirhat etc.

This project has been planned in order to retrieve declining traditional music forms of rural people and artists for renewal and safeguarding. Expected outcome of this pilot project are:
  • Inventory of traditional music forms with description of original form;
  • Collection of script of traditional music forms;
  • Inventory of local artists and promote and encourage local artists;
  • Digital Documentations of intangible Cultural heritage of Bangladesh.

This pilot project will be done in three phases. In the first phase, a researcher shall focus on the local varieties of traditional music, identify and describe local forms of traditional song, collection of lyrics, documentation, collect the name of the popular local artist etc. At the second phase a local NGO will organize 10 (5 X 2 in each district) traditional music programmes in 5 districts of Bangladesh especially on local and traditional music, where rural artists will perform. We have selected districts like Tangail, Rajshahi, Bogra, Kurigram, Dinajpur, and Panchagarh. The target audience will be rural people in very remote areas. Third phase digital documentation of these live performances for preservation and future research in its original form.
