Land of the Betsimiraka
The Betsimisaraka ("Those who are many and as one") are the third largest ethnic group on the Island of Madagascar. They live on the east cost and are exposed to Indo-Asian, Arab and European influences from overseas.
Spirit Music from the Tamatave Region
The tromba possession ceremonies of the Betsimisaraka and Antandroy in the area of Tamatave on the east coast of Madagascar provide occasions for communication between the living and ancestral spirits.
