Training Course for Editors of UNESCO's Ocean Portal

03-03-2003 ()
Training Course for Editors of UNESCO's Ocean Portal
Participants of the training course
Fifteen specialists from nine countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were trained last week in Guayaquil, Ecuador, at the Instituto Oceanográfico de la Armada (INOCAR) to join the team of editors of an Ocean Portal that is presently being developed by the Oceanographic Data and Information Network for Latin America and the Caribbean (ODINCARSA).
The main objective of this course was to identify editors among scientific, academic and military ocean experts in the region to cooperate in the creation and maintenance of the ocean portal that UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) is presently establishing.

The Portal, a high-level directory of ocean data and information related web sites, seeks to provide access to information and data on all aspects of ocean/coastal research and management for the benefit of various communities such as policymakers, scientists and the general public, as well as to provide an “education space” for specific subjects and target audiences.
