An online clearinghouse for literary translation has recently been launched by UNESCO. The new service entitled "Literature & Translation" acts as a centre for information, guidance and encounter for translators, publishers, researchers, librarians, archivists, teachers and all others, who work on the discovery and promotion of literature.
In today's globalized world, foreign literature has experienced a boost unprecedented in the history of culture and editorial industry. But despite the quantity and quality of texts translated and published yearly throughout the world, the variety and representativeness of those in the global market cannot be taken for granted, because of its intrinsic asymmetry. Although the publishing market is much more varied and wide-ranging than in the past, it still remains necessary to promote cultural diversity and pluralism in it.

UNESCO, on the basis of its mandate of promoting cultural diversity, acts as a catalyst for international co-operation in the area of literary translation with the new website as an operational pivot. The new site provides features News from the international actors of literary translation and provides information on mobilization initiatives in favour of a better distribution of high standard literary translation . It also gives access to reference material available on open access data bases including the UNESCO Catalogue of Representative Works and provides many other links to pertinent and interesting sites.
