Dear All,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to this online discussion forum dedicated to the involvement of non-governmental organizations and civil society in the preparation of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).This consultation is of key importance for us, NGO and civil society representatives, as it provides a unique occasion to express our views on the Summit process and to present our concerns regarding the issues that will be raised during the Summit.
The decision to create the forum has been taken in presence of Adama Samassékou, President of the WSIS Preparatory Committee who acknowledged the importance of this initiative.
As you all know, the second meeting of the WSIS Preparatory Committee (Prepcom II) will be held in Geneva the 17-28 February 2003. PrepCom II is an essential step in the Summit preparation as it will be widely dedicated to the drafting of the provisional Plan of Action to be adopted by the Summit.
This is why I strongly encourage NGOs and civil society to actively participate in this online discussion forum in the coming five weeks and to propose those elements that you regard as essential for inclusion in the Plan of Action of the Summit.
I am committed to ensure that your proposals will be transmitted in due form to Adama Samassékou and to the WSIS Executive Secretariat.
