UNESCO Supports On line Training Project for Archivists

26-09-2002 (Paris)
Using the Internet for professional training of archivists is the objective of a project that has been recently launched by the Association internationale des Archives francophones (AIAF). The UNESCO supported initiative aims at providing on line training and re-training facilities for French speaking records and archives managers.
UNESCO supports the project as part of its efforts to promote human resources and capabilities of information workers, particularly by developing training modules for distance learning, for example for librarians and archivists.

The AIAF project that is also supported by the International Council on Archives (ICA), the French central archives administration (Direction des archives de France) and the National Archives of Quebec, Canada, aims to provide to French speaking archivists a common platform for exchanging information and for training. It intends to provide through a single gateway a variety of resources facilitating re-training and continuous training and assisting in archival teaching and research thereby promoting exchanges between professional communities
