On the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8 March, the UNESCO Office in Rabat launches its new Facebook group, Women and media in the Maghreb, and invites journalists, media organizations, journalism students and trainers, activists, civil society groups, governments and public institutions’ officials to join the group on Facebook.
This group aims to bring together all stakeholders involved in UNESCO’s programme, Women and media in the Maghreb, to share views and information on the role of the media as catalysts to advance gender equality in the Maghreb societies.

The group’s logo was selected among the 36 proposals submitted to the Maghreb contest organized by the UNESCO Office in Rabat. The selected logo was designed by Sahm Hamoum from Morocco. The female symbol above the media waves covering the map of the region reflects the important role of women in the Maghreb media.

Women and media in the Maghreb is a programme initiated by UNESCO’s Office in Rabat to promote gender sensitive media content and advance gender equality through media in the Maghreb countries. The programme is implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), the Morocco-German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
