The Committee on Information, an intergovernmental body tasked with reviewing progress in the field of United Nations public information, which met for its 31st session from 4 to 15 May 2009 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, stressed the importance of supporting UNESCO’s International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC).
The members of the Committee recalled UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/63/100 that was adopted in December 2008, inviting all countries and organizations of the UN system to provide full support to IPDC in its efforts to help both public and private media.
IPDC is the only multilateral forum in the UN system designed to mobilize the international community to discuss and promote media development in developing countries. The Programme not only provides support for media projects but also seeks an accord to secure a healthy environment for the growth of free and pluralistic media in developing countries.
