Exchange platform for public TV channels in Portuguese-speaking countries in preparation
A project to establish an exchange platform for Portuguese-language public television broadcasters aims to favour communication, exchange, co-production and the promotion of dialogue and cultural diversity in Lusophone countries.
The ambitious project is presently being discussed at a round table held in Lisbon from 5 to 7 March. Organized by UNESCO, the Executive Secretariat of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) and Portugal’s National Commission for UNESCO, it brings together the managers of television channels from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and Timor-Leste.

This network, first of its kind in the Portuguese-speaking world, targets the production, co-production and exchange of quality content (news, documentaries, sports, educational and youth programmes, etc.) via satellite and internet. It seeks to promote cooperation and dialogue among public TV channels in Portuguese-speaking countries in an environment conducive to freedom of the press and pluralism, in close cooperation with local media and journalists.

The long-term objective of the project is to create propitious conditions for the launch of a global Lusophone television respectful of cultural diversity in the Portuguese-speaking sphere.

Participants will examine needs and possibilities, potential partnerships and strategy to raise the resources for the network. Their discussions will also cover a number of topics related to training, archives, content sharing and procedures to be followed.
