ERNO News Exchange network covered Kosovo status-talks with UNESCO’s support
With regular reporting on the Kosovo Status Talks, the negotiations determining the future status of Kosovo, the UNESCO supported ERNO News Exchange Network, a group of public broadcasters in South East Europe exchanging news regularly with UNESCO’s support, has consolidated its position as one of the essential news providers in the region.
The ERNO pool TV crew established by the coordination office in Sarajevo has followed the talks and produced three current affairs stories of five minutes each on the status-talk progress in the period August-November 2006 in cooperation with other public service broadcasters in the region, especially with RTK Radio Television Kosovo. The news items were also available for other public broadcasting television stations in Europe which are members of the European Broadcasting Union EBU.

In this crucial period not only for Kosovo but for the stability in the countries in South East Europe, the ERNO is providing the public broadcasters and the large audience in the region with the opinions of prominent politicians and leaders from all over the region and from the international organizations such as EU, UN and NATO, who are actively involved in the negotiations on the Kosovo future status. The news items also included opinions of ordinary citizens in the region.

The main objectives of the ERNO project are to increase the cooperation between the participating public television companies across borders and to harness dialogue among media professionals in areas of open and post-conflict. UNESCO has supported the project since 2003.

The U.N. special envoy for the Kosovo status talks, Martti Ahtisaari, is to present his proposal for the status solution to the two sides immediately after the elections in Serbia set for January 2007.
