WinIDAMS Training Workshop in DPRK

15-11-2006 (Paris)
Grand People's Study House (GPSH), Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, organized a training workshop on the use of UNESCO WinIDAMS software package from 23 to 28 October 2004.
Twenty-two librarians, researchers and statisticians participated in the workshop: 9 from province libraries, 4 from the Central Bureau of Statistics and 9 from the GPSH. All of them attended all sessions of the workshop, performed individual work and acquired basic knowledge of the software. There has been very high interest in the WinIDAMS software even among participants with rather limited knowledge in statistics.

The programme of the workshop and the training material in English were prepared and reproduced by UNESCO. There were four working sessions per day: two with presentation of various features of the software and two dedicated to individual work. All sessions were in English and Korean. The interpreter was doing very well his hard job (very professional vocabulary and quite difficult subjects). He was also able to help participants during exercise sessions.

The workshop was successful thanks to its perfect organization and excellent working climate. The room was equipped with 11 computers (one for two participants) and portable computer connected to projector.

The workshop was closed by the President of the Grand People's Study House with the precence of the person responsible for Communication and Information in the National Commision of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for UNESCO.
