Training for producing programme for Mauritania’s local radio Barkeol starts today

Today starts in Rosso, Mauritania, the second training workshop for presenters of the local radio station Barkeol and representatives of development associations on the combined use of traditional and new media for producing programmes that promote development and human rights.
The event, organized by the UNESCO Office in Rabat, includes eight local associations and aims at providing the foundations of a partnership between local radio animators and active members of local development associations.
“We hope that this experiment, the first of its kind in Mauritania, will enable participants to acquire new knowledge as regards programming, deontology, human rights and gender equality, journalistic writing and the use and handling of digital audio equipment”, says UNESCO’s Jaco Du Toit.
The workshops comes within the framework of a UNESCO project combining the promotion of human rights with the development role of the media aims at increasing people’s participation in both in management and programme production aspects, preparing thus the ground for community media in Mauritania.
