UNESCO's ACCESS-net fosters training of ICT trainers as part of Korea IT Learning Programme
19-05-2006 (Paris)

Over 500 people from Eastern Europe and Central Asia are now ICT experts in system and network design and administration thanks to a series of training sessions organized since 2001 in the framework of UNESCO’s Association of Computer Centers for Exploiting Sustainable Synergy (ACCESS-net).
The training took place under UNDP/UNESCO projects such as the Regional Academy for Advanced Network Administration and Design and the Regional Academy for Online Governance and System Administration in collaboration with the respective National Commissions for UNESCO in the regions..
Now, in view of the increasing need of ACCESS-net members for training of trainers in emerging ICT areas and in order to promote sustainable synergy in the regions, a new set of training sessions have just been arranged by the ACCESS-net in collaboration with Republic Korea partners under UNESCO`s coordination.
The main purposes of the training of trainers are not only to offer participants learning opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills on emerging technologies but also to open up a new avenue in building a south-south cooperation framework to provide best practices on production-oriented ICT development opportunities in line with local needs.
While being intended to pursue goals to train trainers in the industrial environment, ACCESS-net is now placing, at the initial stage, key ICT trainers selected from its member countries such as Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Vietnam, Azerbaijan and China in collaboration with the Korea Agency of Digital Opportunity and Promotion (KADO) under the full sponsorship of the 2006 Korea IT Learning Programme (KOIL).
Yong-Sok O, the president of ACCESS-net says “Advanced ICT technology applications in the Republic of Korea should be shared with other developing nations under UNESCO coordination because south-south cooperation is one of excellent modalities of cooperation among Member States in reducing digital gap in the developing world. We intend to continue to provide ACCESS-net members with more opportunities to learn Korea experiences and expertise in ICT”.
The sessions of training of trainers, which are taking place from April to December 2006 in several cities in the Republic of Korea, include a 10 day course on «2006 e-Government System Integration» and a 15 day course called “2006 Mobile Communication”.
