Fostering partnerships between Africa and Eurasia ICT training professionals

Networking technologies and the Internet can help to foster knowledge sharing and transfer between Africa and Eurasia, particularly in training ICT professionals in both continents, said the participants of a UNESCO workshop recently in Tanzania’s capital Dar Es Salaam.
The three day “Round Table on Fostering Partnerships between Africa and Eurasia ICT Training Professionals” was organized by UNESCO from 19 to 21 April 2006 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, in collaboration with the Tanzania Ministry of Infrastructure Development and the National Commission for UNESCO. The Round Table highlighted collaboration perspectives in implementing inter-continental cooperation between ICT institutions in African and Eurasian in professional training and harnessing ICT.
The event hosted by UNESCO/Dar Es Salaam was attended by over 30 representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Ministry of Education and Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology and a numerous Tanzania ICT-related institutions.
4 Bureau members of ACCESS-net (Association of Computer Centers for Exploiting Sustainable Synergy-Network) from Eurasia were invited to present their cooperation proposals to Africa at the Round Table.
The Round Table produced the following outcomes:
12 Tanzania institutions have announced to join ACCESS-net.
The Tanzania National Commission for UNESCO will prepare a comprehensive Medium Term Programme on Cooperation in ICT between Tanzania and the Republic of Korea in collaboration with UNESCO and submit it to the president of ACCESS-net for consideration.
The Tanzania participating institutions will prepare cooperation proposals with Eurasia partner institutions such as the Kiev National Taras Schevchenko University in Ukraine, Baku Scientific and Training Centre in Azerbaijan and the Korea Polytechnic University in the Republic of Korea on a bilateral and multi-lateral basis.
The Tanzania participating institutions agreed to collaborate with ACCESS-net and the Korea Polytechnic University in outreaching Africa through a global E-TRADE initiative, which is being hosted and administered by KPU, and support the UNESCO Institute of Technology Initiative which is at the stage of internal feasibility study.
