Launching of the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2006

UNESCO invites Member States and regional and international organizations professional and non-governmental organizations working in the field of journalism and freedom of expression to nominate candidates for the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.
As stipulated in the Regulations, the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize is intended “to honour… a person, organization or institution that has made a notable contribution to the defence and/or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, especially if this involved risk.

Awarded annually, the Prize consists of an object symbolizing the award and the sum of US$25,000. It is named in honour of the Colombian journalist who died in the exercise of his profession and it will be presenting on 3 May 2006, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.

Nominations for the Prize should be submitted by using a form, which should be duly filled out in English or French and returned by 31 October 2005 at the latest.
