The registration fee has been paid thanks to a project of UNESCO's International Programme for the Development of Communications (IPDC), which will also provide a transmitter with antenna and essential TV production equipment to the women’s association.

Jamila Mujahed, president of the Voice of Afghan Women association (VAW), welcomed the allocation of frequency 55.25 MHz (VHF, Band 1, channel 3) explaining that with the television she hopes to further raise awareness on gender issues in the Afghan capital.

Together with the production equipment and the transmitter, due to arrive in Afghanistan next month and funded by United States of America through the IPDC, VAW will receive from UNESCO also a start-up training.

During the last three years, UNESCO facilitated the establishment of the VAW association and in 2003 supported the development of VAW’s Community radio station which last January, thanks to another IPDC’s project, extended its network and coverage from the capital to the Greater Kabul and the rural areas of the Parwan and Logar provinces.
