Workshop on FOSS in Education Next Week in Kyrgyzstan
A workshop on free and open source software (FOSS) for education in Central Asia will be held next week in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The one day event is being held within the framework of the Kyrgyz “E-education” initiative and the Central Asian Linux Festival by the Soros-Kyrgyzstan Foundation, with UNESCO’s support.

Workshop on FOSS in Education Next Week in Kyrgyzstan

A workshop on free and open source software (FOSS) for education in Central Asia will be held next week in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The one day event is being held within the framework of the Kyrgyz “E-education” initiative and the Central Asian Linux Festival by the Soros-Kyrgyzstan Foundation, with UNESCO’s support.
The organizers, the International University and the Ministry of Education of Kyrgyzstan, expect the participation of staff involved in ICT and education projects in ministries of education, departments of education, educational institutions and other organization of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

The agenda includes the discussion of ethic and legal issues related to the use of free and open source software and of free multi platform office and education applications as well as the presentation of examples of the application of free and open source software in educational institutions in the Russian Federation. The participants are also expected to discuss recommendations on the implementation of free and open source software in educational institutions in Central Asia.
