Multilingual Content Management Platform

This project was carried out within Initiative B@bel in cooperation with Infoterm to harmonise database system for processing of bibliographical, terminological, and factual data.
The Multilingual Content Management (MLCM) consists of several databases, comprising:

  • Bibliographic Database (BDB) for library/archive/documentation data (monographs, standards, dissertations, serials, articles),

  • Factual Database (FDBs) for storing factual information (experts, organisations, projects, events, software),

  • Authority Database (ADB) for maintaining proper spelling of key-elements and their variants (personal authors, corporate authors, publishers, cities, serials, countries, languages),

  • Terminological Database (TDB) for multilingual maintaining of terms, definitions, notes, etc. and their equivalents in up to 9 languages,

  • Classification Database (CLA) for implementation of multilingual classification schemes in up to 9 languages and concordances among them (UDC, ICS, ICC, Dewey, Lenoch, Eurovoc, TCL).

MLCM uses several software runtimes for different purposes, and all of them are based on UNESCO’s CDS/ISIS data structure: CDS/ISIS for Windows, IsisMarc and WWWISIS (from Bireme).
Current restrictions and limitations are due to general software development (e.g. non-Latin scripts other than Cyrillic and Greek can only be implemented if implemented character sets are replaced). Therefore, as it is structured, the MLCM Platform can be adapted to other languages in various world regions. It is designed in such a way that it can represent a valid support to the communities of minority and endangered languages, towards their full participation in the production and interchange of information via the Internet.
    Future versions will support UNICODE.
