Three nominations pre-selected for UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize
27-03-2007 (Paris) - Three out of 23 nominations received from Member States for the second UNESCO /Jikji Memory of the World Prize were preliminarily selected by the Bureau of the Memory of the World Programme during its meeting at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris from 19 to 20 March 2007.

UNESCO TV series collects Grand Prix and other awards

The leading three nominees were Noam Chomsky (17.43%), UNESCO (13.76%) and In Memoriam: interpreters killed in the line of duty (11.01%).

UNESCO Supports Gender in Journalism Awards in Pakistan
08-02-2005 (New Delhi) - The Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) seeks applications for the 2005 Gender in Journalism Awards, which honour excellence in gender sensitive reporting in the country. 08-09-2004 (Paris) - Member States and regional and international NGOs are invited to submit names of candidates for the 2005 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize. The Prize, created in 1997, each year honours a person, organization or institution that has made an outstanding contribution to the defence and/or promotion of press freedom. Nominations must reach UNESCO by 29 October 2004.
Using Multimedia for Storytelling: Competition Launched

INFOLAC Web Prize for Education Portals Launched
16-07-2004 (Quito) - A contest to find the best educational web portal in Latin America and the Caribbean was recently launched by INFOLAC, a programme to enhance co-operation among information systems and networks in the region. The winner of the US$4,000 award will be announced in January 2005. The closure date for online submission of projects is 15 October 2004.
World Press Freedom Day in Belgrade
03-05-2004 (Paris) - UNESCO marked World Press Freedom Day on May 3, with an international conference on Media in Conflict Areas and in Countries in Transition - which ended with the adoption of the Belgrade Declaration on support to the media in conflict and post-conflict situations, and the award ceremony of the UNESCO Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize won this year by Cuban journalist and poet Raul Rivero.

Schools’ Websites Preserving New Zealand Heritage
04-02-2004 (Wellington) - Three schools from around New Zealand have been recognised for their websites on local heritage with the inaugural UNESCO Living Heritage Award. The schools are Campbell’s Bay School, Auckland for World War Two at Our School, St Joseph’s School, Oamaru for The Walkways of Oamaru, and St Peter’s College, Palmerston North for Opiki Toll Bridge.
HIV/AIDS Red Ribbon Media Award for Excellence in Journalism in Eastern and Southern Africa
01-12-2003 - Three journalists from Kenya and Uganda were given this year's HIV/AIDS Red Ribbon Media Award for Excellence in Journalism. The award recognizes media professionals for giving an exceptional contribution to society by writing, reporting and producing programmes on HIV and AIDS in a manner that raises awareness, combats stigma and gives hope and solidarity for people living with HIV/AIDS.

AIBD Television Programme Awards for the Year 2003
19-11-2003 - "A baby's world - the first step", an educational television programme of the Korea Broadcasting Association (KBA) and the Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) and "AIDS Song", a TV spot against HIV/AIDS of the Young Asia Television (YATV), Sri Lanka, were awarded the UNESCO sponsored $2,000 Television Programme Awards of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD).
Winner of UNESCO Digital Arts Award 2003 Announced*
25-07-2003 - Mwanya Chanda, a 25-year-old artist from Zambia, is the first winner of the UNESCO Digital Arts Award, which was this year launched under the theme "Digital Pluralism", promoting digital technology and artistic creativity to foster intercultural dialogue. Chanda was selected out of the 122 applications from 49 countries all over the world.

03-05-2002 (Paris) - The Bureau of the Intergovernmental Council of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) of UNESCO awarded its 2001 Prize for rural communication to two Latin American projects. The Maestro Pablo Pizzurno school was rewarded for its Huanacache radio network that brings together all the schools and communities in the northern part of the Argentinean province of Mendoza, ninety per cent of which lies in the Lavalle desert created by the gradual disappearance of the forest.
