International Telecentre Helpdesk and Clearinghouse to be Discussed at UNESCO HQ

19-04-2002 ()
The establishment of a global Telecentre Helpdesk in support of the telecentre movement in developing countries has been for some time on the agenda of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the International Institute for Communicationand Development (IICD). As part of this process, a consultative workshop will be convened in Paris April 22-24, 2002.
The objective of the Telecentre Helpdesk for the telecentre movement is to foster the exchange of skills and expertise by Southern telecentre practitioners. At present, there is no single recognized telecentre knowledge clearing house that has as its focus a South-South Help Desk service with a global scope.

The overall objective of the Paris workshop, to which about 15 telecentre practitioners in the South, committed to community development through the application of ICT have been invited, is to facilitate a discussion among the participants on the needs for and functions of a Telecentre Helpdesk.

The workshop is jointly organized by IDRC, IICD, UNESCO and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs
