The training was funded and organized by the UNESCO Cluster Office in Dakar (Mr. Thierry Kpehor) and the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. It was conducted by Ms Nadia Raïs and Pierre Chabert (France).

From 2 to 12 December 2003, two parallel sessions were run:

Basic level

CDS/ISIS software and data base management techniques

Internet: information retrieval and web site creation

Data base publishing in the Web using GenIsisWeb

Advanced level

CDS/ISIS software, advanced functions

Data base-publishing in the Web using GenIsisWeb

CDRom-publishing using GenIsisCD.

The workshop was an opportunity to attempt creating a CDS/ISIS community in Africa. While such communities exist at regional level in Latin America, for example, this didn’t happen at that level in Africa, particularly in West Africa.
