World Library and Information Congress To Open in Berlin This Week

Thousands of librarians from all over the world will meet from Friday on in Berlin, Germany, when the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) holds its 69th General Conference and Council. The theme of this year's Conference is " Access Point Library: Media - Information Culture".
The programme of the event, that will beheld from 1 to 9 August is structured according to three sub-themes: "Transforming media management", "Strengthening information content" and Guaranteeing human culture and values"

The UNESCO Open Forum that IFLA hosts at each of its Conferences will look this year at UNESCO, library development and the World Summit on the Information Society.

Founded in 1927, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions is an independent international non-governmental association that has formal associate relations with UNESCO. The aims of IFLA are to promote international understanding, co-operation, discussion, research and development in all fields of library activity and information science, and to provide a body through which librarianship can be represented in matters of international interest. Currently, the Federation counts more than 1,700 members from 150 countries.
